AMI Teams with Honeywell in Metals Laser Powder-Bed Fusion Process Modeling and Control

UA researchers will collaborate with Honeywell Aerospace to evaluate state-of-the-art, build-simulation metals Laser Powder-Bed Fusion (LPBF) models with a focus on the prediction of dimensional distortion under varied processing conditions.  The project is part of a new University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI)-led program funded by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).  

The effort will include the design and construction of a thermal build plate prototype that will offer a fully-instrumented test bed for the assessment of the build plate temperature on LPBF part fabrication and the effective implementation of process monitoring technologies amenable to commercial LPBF machines.
